Tet holiday In Vietnam, these is a national holiday to celebrate the Lunar New Year's Eve, called "Tet". Last year, my family and I celebrated the Tet holiday in a traditional way. We started by cleaning our house thoroughly to get rid of any bad luck from the previous year. After that, we decorated our home with peach blossoms, kumquat trees and other festive decorations.
On the eve of Tet, we prepared a special meal that included traditional dishes such as Banh Chung (square sticky rice cake), pickled onions, boiled chicken, and other delicacies. We placed this meal on our family altar to pay respects to our ancestors and to invite them to join our celebrations.
At midnight, we all gathered around the TV to watch the fireworks display broadcasted from Ho Chi Minh City. This is a tradition in Vietnam, marking the start of the New Year. After the fireworks, we wished each other a happy new year and exchanged lucky money in red envelopes, which is believed to bring good luck and prosperity.
In the following days, we visited relatives and friends, wishing them a prosperous and successful year ahead. We also enjoyed various Tet specialities and participated in traditional games. It was a time of joy, warmth and reunion. Despite being busy, we felt happy and contented because Tet is the most important holiday in Vietnam, a time for everyone to relax and spend quality time with their loved ones.
