This is a common type of essay question in English language exams, where you are asked to discuss two opposing viewpoints and then give your own opinion. Here's a sample response: In the contemporary world, the issue of regulating violence in films has been a topic of heated debate. Some argue that the government should step in and control the level of violence portrayed in films, while others believe that such regulation is unnecessary. Both viewpoints have their merits and demerits. Those advocating for government regulation argue that excessive violence in films can have detrimental effects, especially on younger viewers. They contend that exposure to violent content can desensitize individuals, leading to an increase in aggressive behavior and a decrease in empathy towards others. Furthermore, they believe that the government, as a representative of societal values, has a responsibility to ensure that media content aligns with these values and does not harm the public. On the other hand, opponents of regulation argue for freedom of expression. They believe that filmmakers, like any other artists, should have the right to express their ideas and perspectives without government interference. They also argue that it is the responsibility of parents, not the government, to monitor and control what their children watch. Moreover, they contend that viewers have the right to choose what they want to watch and that those who find violent content disturbing can simply avoid such films. In my opinion, a balanced approach is needed. While I agree that excessive violence can have negative impacts, I also believe in the importance of freedom of expression. Therefore, instead of outright regulation, I propose a robust rating system that clearly indicates the level of violence in a film. This would allow viewers to make informed decisions about what they watch, while also preserving the creative freedom of filmmakers. Remember, this is just one way to approach this question. Your response may vary depending on your personal views and experiences.

People hold different opinions about whether violent films should be controlled. Although this could be true to some extent, I believe that regulating the level of violence in films is unnecessary.

On one hand, it may be a warning that audiences spending too much time on violent plots in films may lead to violent behaviours in reality. It means a child whom exposures to violence may build on his abusive behaviours and get the way for incidence committing a crime. For example, learning towards fighting scenes may be attributed to abusive behaviour with their companions in real life without considering the consequences. Besides, watching enormous violent actions in films affect how young viewers evaluate violent behaviours and take them for granted. As a result, they grow up and lack  empathy.

On the other hand, many people and I believe that regulating films is not essential cause the benefits of this kind of film and the consciousness of viewers. The government tracks and minimizes the action plots and twists leading to the absence and run down of typical plots of films. In consequence, audiences feel boredom and chose  other kinds of films. In addition, the majority of people have no difficulty differentiating between fact and fiction, meaning that they are conscious enough to not perform similar acts themselves in real life. viewers simply seek the thrill and excitement from this genre, so if violent content is cut out of products, the appeal to these movies will be reduced.

In conclusion,  violent content to some extent affects  young behaviours. However, the majority of people are able to distinguish between reality and fiction, and will not bring such scenes into their daily life, thus, restricting violent content will make action movies bland.

dungdangdi people have held conflicting views about whether the government should restrict the intensity of action movies or let creators of these movies continue to publish them. I believe that the authorities may ignore the intensity of violent movies and this essay serves to prove my notion On the one hand, many people want to limit the level of violent factors in films for some reasons. Firstly, this content may increase in criminal rate, as adults watch violent movies frequently, their mental may be affected by harsh activities in films. Specifically, these people can be convinced that using a gun or knife to kill others is legal and normal, then they imitate these activities leading to more crimes. Moreover, these films have a negative effect on not only adults but also the young, especially children whose cognitive is not developed enough. Similar to adults the children may copy these activities and make their classmates hurt so several regretful accidents can happen. On the other hand, several people still support the development of action movies with a high intensity. First of all, violence is the key to this genre of films so if these factors are removed they can not attract any viewers. Consequently, there is not enough profit to develop the film industry so this major can be collapsed. Furthermore, people who are obsessed with violence should opt for watching comedy or romance genres instead of horror or blockbuster movies, hence they can avoid their obsession, and bad influence and continue to satisfy their watching movies passion. In conclusion, some people argue that authorities may restrict the intensity of action movies for harmful effects on society and children. However, I am convinced that harsh elements play an important role in the quality of intense movies and there are several solutions to address the risk of violent films so it is not crucial to regulate them.

  1. Some people feel that the government should regulate the level of violence in films on television and at the cinema. Others feel that violent films should not be regulated. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Certainly! Let's discuss both views regarding the regulation of violence in films:

View 1: Government regulation of violent films

Supporters of this view argue that government regulation is necessary due to the following reasons:

  1. Protection of viewers, especially children: Violent content in films can have a negative impact on vulnerable viewers, particularly children. Government regulation can help protect them from exposure to excessive violence and its potential psychological effects.
  2. Public safety and well-being: Some argue that violent films can contribute to real-world violence and aggression. By regulating the level of violence depicted in films, the government can mitigate potential harm to society and promote public safety.
  3. Cultural and societal values: Regulations can ensure that films align with the cultural and societal values of a particular country or community. This can help maintain social harmony and prevent the dissemination of content that goes against accepted norms and standards.
  4. Responsible media consumption: Government regulation can encourage filmmakers to produce content that is not solely focused on violence, promoting diversity and creativity in storytelling. It can also encourage viewers to engage in a more balanced and responsible consumption of media.

View 2: Non-regulation of violent films

Advocates for this view believe that violent films should not be regulated due to the following reasons:

  1. Freedom of expression: Filmmakers should have the freedom to express their artistic vision, including the depiction of violence, without unnecessary censorship or interference. This view emphasizes the importance of protecting freedom of speech and creative expression.
  2. Personal choice and responsibility: Individuals should have the autonomy to decide what films they want to watch. Supporters argue that adults are capable of making informed choices about the content they consume, and regulations may infringe upon personal freedoms.
  3. Parental guidance and education: Rather than relying on government regulation, proponents argue that parents should take an active role in guiding their children's media consumption. They believe that parental involvement and education about media literacy are more effective in protecting children from harmful content.
  4. Market demand and consumer choice: Non-regulation allows the market to determine the demand for violent films. Supporters argue that if there is a demand for such content, filmmakers should have the freedom to produce it, and viewers can choose whether or not to watch it.

My opinion:

In my opinion, a balanced approach is necessary when it comes to regulating violence in films. While it is important to protect vulnerable viewers and promote public safety, strict government regulation of violent films may infringe upon artistic freedom and personal choice. I believe that instead of heavy-handed regulation, a combination of measures can be effective:

  1. Age-based ratings and classifications: Implementing clear and consistent rating systems can help guide viewers, particularly parents, in making informed decisions about the suitability of films for different age groups.
  2. Parental guidance and education: Encouraging parental involvement and providing resources for media literacy can empower parents to navigate their children's media consumption and discuss the potential impact of violent content.
  3. Industry self-regulation: Encouraging the film industry to adopt responsible practices, such as voluntary guidelines or codes of conduct, can promote a more balanced portrayal of violence and encourage creative storytelling without excessive violence.
  4. Public awareness campaigns: Raising awareness about the potential effects of violent content and promoting responsible media consumption can empower viewers to make informed choices and engage critically with the films they watch.

By adopting a multi-faceted approach that respects freedom of expression, encourages parental involvement, and promotes responsible media consumption, we can strike a balance between protecting vulnerable viewers and preserving artistic freedom in the film industry.
