One of the traditional festivals in Vietnam is Tet Nguyen Dan, commonly known as Tet. Tet is the Vietnamese New Year and is the most important and widely celebrated festival in the country. It marks the beginning of the lunar new year and is a time for families to gather, pay respects to ancestors, and welcome the new year with hopes of luck and prosperity.
During Tet, everyone, regardless of age, takes part in the festivities. People clean their homes, decorate them with flowers and traditional items like peach blossoms and kumquat trees, and prepare special foods for the occasion. Families also visit temples to pray for a good year ahead and honor their ancestors by burning incense and offering food.
One of the key activities during Tet is the giving and receiving of gifts. People exchange traditional gifts such as lucky money in red envelopes, fruits, and sweets as a way to spread good wishes for the new year. Another important aspect of Tet is the reunion dinner on New Year's Eve, where families come together to feast on a variety of delicious dishes.
As a Vietnamese person, I feel a deep sense of warmth and connection to my cultural roots during Tet. It is a time when I get to spend quality time with my loved ones, reminisce about the past year, and look forward to the future with optimism. The atmosphere during Tet is filled with joy, love, and hope, and it always leaves me feeling grateful for the blessings in my life. Tet holds a special place in my heart and I cherish the traditions and memories that come with it.
