Stewed pork is a delicious dish that my family loves. Here's how we prepare it:
Ingredients:
Pork shoulder or pork belly, cut into chunks
Soy sauce
Brown sugar
Garlic, minced
Ginger, sliced
Star anise
Cinnamon stick
Bay leaves
Water or broth
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: vegetables like carrots, potatoes, or onions
Instructions:
- Marinate the pork: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and sliced ginger. Add the pork chunks to the marinade, making sure they're well coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to soak in.
- Brown the pork: Heat some oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the marinated pork chunks and sear them until they're browned on all sides. This step adds flavor to the dish.
- Add aromatics and liquid: Once the pork is browned, add star anise, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, and any optional vegetables to the pot. Pour in enough water or broth to cover the pork and vegetables.
- Simmer: Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let the pork simmer gently for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender and flavorful. Stir occasionally and check the liquid level, adding more water or broth if needed.
- Season to taste: Once the pork is cooked, season the stew with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
- Serve: Serve the stewed pork hot, accompanied by steamed rice or your favorite side dishes. Enjoy the tender and flavorful pork with its rich sauce!
