Vietnamese water puppetry or Múa rối nước, is a unique and ancient art form originating in the Red River Delta over a thousand years ago. This traditional performance takes place in a waist-deep pool of water, which acts as the stage. Puppeteers, hidden behind a screen, skillfully manipulate the lacquered wooden puppets using long rods and strings beneath the water's surface. The stories depicted often revolve around daily life in rural Vietnam, historical events, and mythical legends, accompanied by traditional Vietnamese music played by a live orchestra. Water puppetry is a vibrant cultural spectacle, showcasing the ingenuity and artistic spirit of the Vietnamese people, and continues to captivate audiences both locally and internationally.
