UNIT 7: ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
- What does 3Rs mean? 3Rs stands for Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. These are three key principles aimed at minimizing waste and conserving natural resources.
- Reduce: To use less of something in the first place.
- Reuse: To use something again for the same purpose or a different purpose.
- Recycle: To process used materials into new products.
- What do you mean by "carbon footprint"? "Carbon footprint" refers to the total amount of greenhouse gases (especially carbon dioxide) generated by our actions, activities, and the products we use. It's a measure of our impact on the environment and climate change.
- What should we do to protect the environment? There are many things we should do to protect the environment, including:
- Reduce waste: By using less, reusing items, and recycling properly.
- Conserve energy: By turning off lights and appliances when not in use, using energy-efficient products, and considering renewable energy sources.
- Save water: By fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, and being mindful of water usage.
- Use sustainable transportation: By walking, cycling, using public transport, or choosing electric vehicles.
- Support eco-friendly products and businesses: By making conscious purchasing decisions.
- Plant trees and protect forests: As they absorb carbon dioxide.
- Educate ourselves and others: About environmental issues and solutions.
- What activities do you do on Earth Day? On Earth Day, I try to engage in activities that promote environmental awareness and action. This might include:
- Participating in local clean-up events: Helping to clean up parks, beaches, or neighborhoods.
- Planting trees or flowers: Contributing to green spaces.
- Learning more about environmental issues: Reading articles, watching documentaries, or attending webinars.
- Making sustainable changes in my daily routine: Like reducing plastic use or conserving energy more consciously.
- Spreading awareness: Talking to friends and family about the importance of environmental protection.
UNIT 8: SHOPPING
- What are the advantages of online shopping? There are several advantages to online shopping:
- Convenience: You can shop anytime, anywhere with internet access.
- Wider selection: Online stores often offer a much larger variety of products than physical stores.
- Price comparison: It's easier to compare prices from different sellers.
- Potentially lower prices: Online retailers may have lower overhead costs.
- Reviews and information: You can read reviews from other customers before making a purchase.
- Home delivery: Items are delivered directly to your doorstep.
- Avoiding crowds: No need to deal with crowded stores, especially during peak hours.
- What does "Shopaholic" mean? "Shopaholic" is an informal term used to describe a person who is addicted to shopping. They have a compulsive desire to buy things, often excessively and beyond their needs or financial means.
- Where do you prefer to go shopping, supermarket or open-air market? Why? I prefer to go shopping at open-air markets for a few reasons:
- Freshness and local produce: Open-air markets often offer fresher, locally sourced fruits, vegetables, and other products.
- Atmosphere and experience: The vibrant atmosphere, interactions with vendors, and unique finds can make shopping more enjoyable.
- Support for local businesses: Buying from vendors at open-air markets directly supports local farmers and small businesses.
- Potential for bargaining: Unlike supermarkets, there might be an opportunity to bargain for a better price.
- Can you bargain at a supermarket? Why or Why not? No, you usually cannot bargain at a supermarket. This is because supermarkets typically operate on a fixed-price system. The prices of goods are clearly marked, and there isn't an expectation or mechanism for negotiation. This system ensures consistency and efficiency in transactions for a large volume of customers.
UNIT 9: NATURAL DISASTERS
- What is a tornado? A tornado is a violently rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. It is characterized by a funnel-shaped cloud and can cause immense destruction with its high winds.
- Name 4 natural disasters you know. Four natural disasters I know are:
- Earthquake
- Flood
- Hurricane (or Typhoon, Cyclone depending on the region)
- Volcanic eruption
- What natural disaster can an earthquake cause? An earthquake can cause several other natural disasters, including:
- Tsunamis: Large ocean waves caused by the displacement of the seafloor.
- Landslides: The movement of rock, soil, or debris down a slope.
- Avalanches: Rapid flows of snow down a slope.
- Fires: Due to damaged gas lines or electrical systems.
- What should we do before a flood coming? Before a flood comes, we should take the following precautions:
- Stay informed: Monitor weather forecasts and official warnings.
- Evacuate if advised: Follow instructions from local authorities.
- Secure your home: Bring outdoor items inside, move valuables to higher floors, and consider sandbagging vulnerable areas.
- Prepare an emergency kit: Include food, water, medications, first-aid supplies, a flashlight, and a radio.
- Know evacuation routes: Plan where you will go and how you will get there.
- Turn off utilities if instructed: Such as gas and electricity.
UNIT 10: COMMUNICATION IN THE FUTURE
- List 4 ways of communication you know. Four ways of communication I know are:
- Face-to-face conversations
- Phone calls
- Text messaging (SMS)
- Email
- Video calls
- Social media platforms
- Please tell some advantages of online calls. Some advantages of online calls include:
- Cost-effective: Often free or cheaper than traditional phone calls, especially for international calls.
- Visual communication: Video calls allow you to see the person you're talking to, enhancing understanding and connection.
- Additional features: Many platforms offer features like screen sharing, file sharing, and group calling.
- Accessibility: Can be made from anywhere with an internet connection.
- Convenience: Easy to initiate and receive calls on various devices.
- Which social website do you use to communicate with other people? As a large language model, I don't personally use social websites to communicate. However, popular social websites used by people for communication include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X), and various messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.
- Which do you prefer, online chats or talking face to face? Why? I prefer talking face to face because it offers a richer and more nuanced communication experience. You can observe body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice, which can convey a lot more meaning than text-based online chats. Face-to-face interaction allows for more immediate feedback and a stronger sense of connection. While online chats are convenient for quick messages and staying in touch across distances, they can sometimes lack the depth and personal touch of in-person conversations.
