Luu Thi Quynh Chi Relying excessively on technology in daily life can bring about a wide range of risks for young people. Firstly, overuse of digital devices such as smartphones and tablets often leads to reduced face-to-face social interaction. Many teenagers prefer texting or chatting online rather than meeting friends in person, which can weaken their communication skills and cause feelings of loneliness or social isolation. Secondly, spending long hours in front of screens promotes a sedentary lifestyle. Lack of physical activity increases the risk of obesity, heart disease, and other health issues, while staring at screens for extended periods can result in eye strain, headaches, and poor posture. Thirdly, technology can negatively impact mental health. Social media platforms sometimes create unrealistic standards of beauty and success, pushing young people to compare themselves to others and feel inadequate. Cyberbullying is another serious problem, as negative comments or harassment online can lead to anxiety, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. Furthermore, constant notifications and the habit of multitasking with several devices at once can reduce attention span and make it difficult for students to focus on their studies, ultimately harming their academic performance. Privacy and security are also major concerns; sharing personal information online can make young people targets for scams, identity theft, or other types of cybercrime. In addition, overdependence on technology may reduce critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as many young people turn to the internet for quick answers instead of thinking independently. In summary, while technology is an essential and useful part of modern life, it is important for young people to be aware of its risks and to use it in moderation to protect their physical health, mental well-being, and social skills.
