The interviewer’s inference that Billy super natural skills on bass guitar, including his circus like performance routines, were easier for him than they would be for you or me robbed him of the self sacrificing, “all day, everyday” regimen that he had adhered to since he started and continues to this day. ( check out “Sons of Apollo, love in Bulgaria” dvd…his interplay with guitarist Bumblefoot are otherworldly displays of hard earned skill.)
Billy actually drove from Buffalo to Queens with all of his gear to audition for my friend’s band in the 70s…they thought that he had amazing chops, but the wrong feel for their music and turned him down. He’s not super man, just the ultimate bass nerd. I sometimes think that his tone ruins his performances…but I’m always excited to see him.

In my opinion, success is a result of both hard work and natural talent, but hard work plays a more crucial role.
+ Hard work: Diligence, effort.
+ Natural talent: Innate ability, natural aptitude.
+ Influence: Impact.
+ Success: Achievement.
Explanation:
1.Natural talent provides a favorable starting point:
+ Someone with natural talent in a particular field may learn and develop faster than others.
+ For example, someone with a natural aptitude for music may find it easier to learn to play an instrument compared to someone without that aptitude.
2.Hard work is the decisive factor:
+ Regardless of natural talent, without hard work and effort, that talent will not be able to develop and achieve success.
+ Hard work helps us hone our skills, overcome difficulties, and constantly improve.
+ For example, a swimmer with innate talent, but without training hard every day, will not be able to achieve high results in competitions.
3.Illustrative examples:
+ Thomas Edison: This great inventor was once considered a poor student in school. However, with persistence and relentless effort, he conducted thousands of experiments and eventually invented the electric light bulb.
+ Michael Jordan: One of the greatest basketball players of all time, Michael Jordan was not accepted into his high school basketball team. Instead of giving up, he trained harder than ever and eventually became a legend.
In conclusion, natural talent can help you get off to a good start, but hard work, effort, and persistence are the key factors to achieving true success.
