If I had to choose one city in Japan to visit, I would choose Kyoto. Kyoto is a city located in the Kansai region of Honshu, the largest island of Japan. It is situated in a valley, surrounded by mountains and home to numerous temples, shrines, and gardens. To get to Kyoto, you can fly into Kansai International Airport, which is located about 100 kilometers south of Kyoto. From the airport, you can take a train or bus to get to Kyoto Station, which is the city's main transportation hub. Alternatively, you can also fly into Osaka's Itami Airport or Nagoya's Chubu Centrair International Airport, which are both connected to Kyoto by train or bus. Kyoto is a city steeped in history and culture, and there are countless things to see and do there. Some of the top attractions include the Fushimi Inari shrine, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form a tunnel up the mountain; the Kinkaku-ji temple, also known as the Golden Pavilion; and the Arashiyama bamboo forest, a serene and picturesque area with towering bamboo groves. I would also like to visit the Gion district, famous for its geisha culture, and try some traditional Japanese cuisine, such as kaiseki or shojin-ryori. Additionally, I would like to take a stroll through the beautiful gardens of the Imperial Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit the Nijo Castle, a 17th-century castle with "nightingale floors" that squeak when walked upon to alert guards of intruders. Kyoto is a city that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, and I believe that visiting it would be a truly enriching experience.
