According to the scholarship hunting tips of previous students, regardless of whether you are looking for an undergraduate or a postgraduate scholarship, one of the most important scholarship application requirements is the grade point average (GPA). You should strive to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5−4.0 (equivalent to about 9−10 on the Vietnamese scale) to double your chances of winning a scholarship compared to students with a GPA below 3.0 (around 8 on the Vietnamese scale).
However, the indispensable first step on your list before you apply for any scholarship is to thoroughly research the scholarship criteria set by the granting organization. These criteria are usually clearly published as documents on the official website/announcements, so you should first follow the instructions step by step and meet the requirements, as this will significantly increase your chances of securing the scholarship.
For education systems that favor standardized test scores, such as the United States, candidates should also research prominent standardized tests like the SAT and ACT, as well as the required scores for the institution they are targeting. Students with above-average SAT and ACT scores are more likely to win scholarships. Students with an SAT score of 1,000 or higher or an ACT score of 21 or higher have better opportunities to secure scholarships.
Regarding the field of study, particularly in the case of the US, students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields have more opportunities to win scholarships than those in other areas.
