In 1997, a team of paleontologists made an amazing discovery. During a four-month expedition to the Sahara Desert, they found one of the most complete sauropod (or "long-necked" dinosaur) fossils ever seen. Paleontologists estimate that the dinosaur, named Jobaria, lived in the country of Niger over 160 million years ago.

Scientists believe Jobaria's appearance remained unchanged for about 40 million years. It weighed about 22 tons and was about 20 meters ( 70 feet) long. Fossils suggest that Jobaria used its strong back legs for support, and used them to raise itself up so it could eat tree branches. According to these scientists, Jobaria was unlike most sauropods of the time. It didn't have a flexible neck, its tail was very short, and it also had spoon-shaped teeth.
