The idea that technology can provide significant benefits to students when self-learning at home is one that has been increasingly touted by many individuals. I partially agree with this notion, as I believe that while technology can be a useful tool for self-education, there are still several limitations that hinder its effectiveness.
Firstly, students require guidance and correction from educators to reinforce what they have learned and to direct them towards further information or resources that can be beneficial. Without this support, a student may struggle to gain a deep understanding of the subject material, even with the help of technology.
Secondly, online resources can be fragmented and of varying quality, which makes it difficult for students to identify credible sources of information or to know what material to prioritize when studying.
Finally, there are certain aspects of learning, such as group discussions, that cannot be replicated effectively utilizing technology. For some students, the social component of traditional forms of learning is valuable in terms of motivation and maintaining focus, which self-learning may lack.
Overall, while I believe that technology can certainly play a role in self-education, it should be used in conjunction with effective guidance from educators and a broader understanding of the limitations of self-learning.
