Digital technologies are continually transforming the field of education. According to Gallup survey, 87 percent of American public school teachers use digital tools every week. Among the most significant trends in EdTech (educational technology), augmented reality (AR) takes a leading position. Augmented reality is the idea that you're bringing animation or 3D images into your real world and using your device to see something that isn't actually there. If you are not familiar with this concept, perhaps the best example is Pokémon Go. Unlike VR, AR doesn’t require any expensive hardware. Because most people currently own a smartphone, AR technologies are immediately available for use for the majority of the target audience. AR can bring a number of benefits in education. It helps the students grasp abstract concepts through rich visuals and gain hands-on experience in low-risk virtual settings. For example, students can explore the internal organs of a frog easily without dissecting frogs in biology class. Or teachers can use AR to create a tornado right into the classroom so students can experience these destructive storms close up. Besides, AR can replace textbooks, physical forms, posters, and printed brochures. This helps reduce the cost of learning materials and makes it easy for everyone to access. Interactive, gamified AR learning also keeps students engaged throughout the lesson and makes learning fun and effortless. Moreover, every category of learners, from elementary school students to long-time professionals, can benefit from AR learning.
26. AR is a technology that uses mobile devices to create real-world objects.

VII. Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.
The stethoscope is considered as an iconic symbol of medicine. It was invented in 1816 by the French physician René Théophile Hyacinthe Laënnec (1781-1826). At that time, in order to diagnose the patient’s conditions, doctors had to use immediate auscultation, which means placing their ears directly on the chests of patients to hear the heartbeat. This could be quite embarrassing for female patients. One day, while walking in Paris, Dr. René saw two children sending signals to each other using a long piece of solid wood and making scratching sounds with a pin. It was this observation that inspired his invention of the stethoscope. First, he tested this idea by rolling up a piece of paper and then used it to listen to his patient’s chest. He was surprised that he was able to hear his patient’s heartbeat more clearly. Dr. René later experimented with different types of materials until he finally decided upon a hollow tube of wood. He called this instrument “the cylinder” due to its shape. Then, he changed its name into the “stethoscope” because from the Greek ‘stethos’ means chest and ‘skopein’ means examining. In 1851, an Irish doctor named Arthur Leared invented a binaural version of the stethoscope. A year later, George Cammann created a flexible, rubber stethoscope and it was put into mass production. Throughout the 20th century, many minor improvements were made to the stethoscope to reduce weight, improve acoustic quality, and filter out external noise. Electronic versions of the stethoscope were also introduced to further amplify the sounds inside the body. During the Covid-19 pandemic, digital stethoscopes are seen as a major rise in popularity. A digital stethoscope is able to convert an acoustic sound to electronic signals which can be transmitted to a personal computer, and doctors can remotely listen to it.

VIII. Read the following passage and choose the correct answer to each of the questions.
A digital assistant is a computer programme which is designed to assist a user by answering questions and perform basic tasks. Digital assistants use advanced artificial intelligence (AI), natural language processing, natural language understanding, and machine learning to learn as they go and provide a personalized, conversational experience. Today, millions of individuals across the world who own computers, tablets or smartphones use at least a digital assistant. They also exist in cars, appliances, some smart TVs, and smartwatches. The first modern digital assistant installed on a smartphone was Siri, which was introduced as a feature of the iPhone 4S in October, 2011 by Apple Inc. Then, in 2014, Amazon introduced the Alexa voice assistant and Echo smart speaker. Six years after Siri, Bixby made its debut on the Galaxy S8 series. To interact with a digital assistant, you must use a wake word, which is a word or group of words your device uses to activate the digital assistant. Wake words include ‘Alex’, ‘Hey Cortana’, ‘Hey Siri’, etc. Once you’ve said the wake word, you can then ask the digital assistant a question, such as ‘Hey Siri, what is the current temperature?’ Digital assistants like Siri or Cortana are able to answer many general questions and offer recommendations based on a user’s profile, past behaviours, and other information. Therefore, digital assistants bring convenience, free us to be more creative and innovative. You can spend more time on strategic ideas and complex activities, and less time on tedious tasks that are better handled by the assistants you will carry in your pockets. With continuing advances in AI, digital assistants are becoming ‘smarter’ – providing more natural conversations, answering more complex questions, and offering faster and more insightful recommendations.
